Years of Unfiled Returns Feel Unfixable.
They Are Not. But There Is a Right Order.

Whether it is one missed year or ten, the path back to compliance is shorter and less painful than you think, if it is done in the correct sequence.

Aureus finds out what the IRS already knows, files what actually needs to be filed, and manages whatever comes next.

IRS TAX RESOLUTION

You are working directly with an IRS Enrolled Agent.

Our team includes Enrolled Agents licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury with unlimited authority to represent clients before the IRS for audits, collections, appeals, and notices in all 50 states.
That representation is built into every engagement we take on.

Why Non-Filers Stay Stuck

Nobody plans to stop filing. A hard year happens, a business fails, a divorce hits, records get lost, and one missed return quietly becomes three, then six. Then the fear takes over: fear that filing will wake the IRS up, fear of a balance you cannot pay, fear that it is somehow too late to fix.

Here is the truth that unlocks all of it: the IRS already knows about most of your income. Every W-2, 1099, and broker statement issued in your name was also sent to the IRS. You are not hiding. You are just unrepresented. And the difference between coming forward voluntarily and waiting to be found is the difference between managing a problem and being managed by one.

What Happens If You Keep Waiting

The IRS Files For You

The IRS prepares a Substitute for Return using only the income it knows about: no deductions, no business expenses, no dependents. Many "impossible" tax debts are not real debts. They are Substitute for Return math that a correctly filed return would shrink dramatically.

Refunds Expire

If any unfiled years would have produced a refund, you have a limited window to claim it, generally three years from the original due date. After that, the money is legally gone. Non-filers forfeit refunds every year without ever knowing they were owed one.

Penalties Do the Compounding

The failure-to-file penalty is ten times larger than the failure-to-pay penalty. Filing, even when you cannot pay, immediately stops the most expensive penalty from growing. "I can't afford to file" has it backwards.

Everything Downstream Is Blocked

Mortgages, business loans, SBA funding, financial aid, and immigration matters all run into the same wall. And no IRS resolution program will be approved while required returns are missing.

The Right Order of Operations

1

Find Out What
the IRS Knows

We pull your IRS wage and income transcripts and account records for every open year.
This tells us exactly what income the IRS has on file, which years it considers unfiled, and whether any Substitute for Returns exist.

2

File What Actually Needs Filing

The IRS generally requires the most recent six years to be considered compliant. We prepare accurate returns for the required years, reconstruct records where yours are missing, and replace any Substitute for Return assessments with correct numbers.

3

Resolve
the Outcome

If the returns show refunds, we claim what is still claimable. If they show a balance, we already know your options.
Payment plans, penalty abatement, hardship status: the strategy is chosen before the IRS ever asks.

4

Stay Compliant
in the Future

The goal is not just catching up; it is never being here again.
We close every case with the estimated payments, withholding fixes, or bookkeeping systems that keep next April boring.

Frequently asked questions

Will filing after all these years trigger an audit or criminal charges?

Voluntary compliance is what the IRS wants, and coming forward on your own is viewed completely differently than being pursued. For virtually everyone reading this page, the risk is in staying invisible, not in filing.

How many years do I actually have to file?

The IRS generally expects the last six years for compliance, but the correct answer depends on your income history, whether Substitute for Returns were filed, and what the transcripts show. This is exactly why we investigate before filing anything.

What if I don't have my records anymore?

This stops almost no one. IRS transcripts recover most income records, and we reconstruct the rest from bank statements and reasonable documentation. Missing paperwork is a process problem, not a dead end.

What if I can't pay what the returns show I owe?

Then you will be in the same position as millions of taxpayers, with formal options: installment agreements, hardship status, penalty abatement, and in some cases an offer in compromise. Filing is what unlocks every one of those doors.

The IRS already filed a return for me. Is it too late to fix?

Usually not. A correctly prepared original return can generally replace a Substitute for Return assessment, often dramatically reducing the balance. The sooner it is filed, the more options remain.

What does this cost?

A fixed fee, quoted at your case review, based on the number of years and the complexity of each. You will know the full number before we begin.

The Hardest Part Is the Phone Call.
We Made It Easy.

Every non-filer we have helped says a version of the same thing: the years of dread were worse than the fix. The IRS record does not improve with time. Refund windows close, Substitute for Returns get filed, and penalties compound, all while the anxiety compounds with them.

One confidential conversation. No judgment, no lecture, and by the end of it, an actual plan. That is the whole first step.

This page provides general information and is not tax or legal advice. Eligibility for installment agreements, offers in compromise, hardship status, and penalty relief depends on the specific facts and financial circumstances of your case. No outcome is guaranteed.
